വിത്തുകള് ശേഖരിച്ച് സൂക്ഷിച്ചുവയ്ക്കുന്ന രീതികള്
നെല്ല്: മിതമായ വെയിലില് ഉണക്കുന്നു. പൊടിയും പതിരും നീക്കി വൃത്തിയാക്കുന്നു. വൃത്തിയാക്കിയ വിത്ത് ചാക്കില് കെട്ടി നിലവറയില് സൂക്ഷിച്ചുവയ്ക്കുന്നു. ചാക്കിനു പകരം ലോഹപ്പെട്ടിയോ, തടിപ്പെട്ടിയോ ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നുണ്ട്.പയര്: വിളഞ്ഞ് ഉണങ്ങിയ കായ്കള് പൊട്ടിച്ച് വിത്തുകളെടുക്കുന്നു. വൃത്തിയാക്കിയ ശേഷം കീടങ്ങള് കടക്കാത്ത പെട്ടിക്കുള്ളില് സൂക്ഷിക്കുന്നു.
പാവല്: വിളഞ്ഞു പഴുത്ത കായില് നിന്നും വിത്തുകള് പുറത്തെടുത്ത് കഴുകി വൃത്തിയാക്കുന്നു. മങ്ങിയ വെയിലില് കടലാസില് വച്ച് ഉണങ്ങുന്നു. അധികം ചൂടേല്ക്കാതിരിക്കാന് വേണ്ടി വിത്തിനു മുകളിലും ഒരു കടലാസ് വയ്ക്കാറുണ്ട്. ഉണങ്ങിയ വിത്തുകള് പോളിത്തീന് ബാഗില് ഇട്ട് കീടങ്ങള് കടക്കാതെ അടച്ചു സൂക്ഷിക്കുന്നു. ചാണകവരളിയില് പതിച്ചും സൂക്ഷിക്കാറുണ്ട്.
മത്തന്: കായില് നിന്നും വിത്തുകള് പുറത്തെടുത്ത് കഴുകി വൃത്തിയാക്കി പാവലിന്റെ കാര്യത്തിലേതുപോലെ ഉണക്കിയെടുക്കുന്നു. ഉണങ്ങിയ വിത്തുകള് ചാണകവരളിയില് പതിച്ചും പോളിത്തീന് ബാഗിനുള്ളില് വച്ചും സൂക്ഷിക്കുന്നു.
Methods in which seeds are collected and stored.
Rice: Harvested mature seeds are cleaned by winnowing and dried in the sun that is moderately hot. The seeds are then packed in gunny bags and stored in soils. Metal boxes or wooden boxes are also used instead of gunny bags.
Pea: Seeds are collected from dry fruits. They are cleaned and kept in insect proof boxes.
Bitter gourd: Seeds are taken out from fully mature fruits. They are then washed in water and dried in the shade, keeping them on newspaper. To prevent overheating the seeds are covered with newspaper sheet. Dried seeds are packed in polythene bags in which insects cannot enter. Seeds are sometimes pressed on cow dung tablets and dried and kept.
Pumpkin: Seeds are taken out of the fruits and washed in water. They are then dried as in the case of bitter gourd. They can be pressed on cow dung and dried or kept in polythene bags or in metal boxes.
